Aesthetic Theories of India Vol. I
ISBN Number : 81-7076-008-3
(Hardcover - 1983)
Originally presented as the author's thesis (Ph.D., University of Pune), the book is designed to comprehend the wide perspective of the study of Indian Aesthetics. For the fear of repetition, an elaborate discussion on Rasa theory is avoided here. The range of Sanskrit literature from Vedic period to Classical Sanskrit has been studied with a view to derive several aesthetic theories of the art forms. Different systems of philosophies and religions and discussions of medieval and modern aestheticians belonging to the east and the west with parallel concepts are enumerated. Art of India cannot be isolated from religion and philosophy and their historical involvement are co-expressed in the discussion by cross-examining the facts.
